Range
The Kings' rock monitor is a small lizard found in the rocky outcrops of the northwestern part of the Northern Territory and the northeastern part of Western Australia. This agile creature can often be observed navigating the rock formations and slopes, skillfully darting in and out of crevices and beneath boulders. Its remarkable adaptability to such environments makes it a unique resident of this stunning landscape.
Size
Kings' rock monitors are on the smaller end of the odatria subgenus growing up to 16 inches long, primarily thanks to their long tails. Typically, their body length from nose to vent measures between 6 to 9 inches. Like most varanids males of the species are generally larger than females. Their small size is advantageous to keepers that lack space for a larger enclosure.

Kings' rock monitors are a diurnal species that require high basking temperatures and high UVB exposure. Provide these little monitors with basking temperatures that range from 110℉ to 120℉ , complemented by ambient temperatures of 80℉ to 85℉. Offer them a quality UVB to ensure they can properly synthesize calcium and prevent metabolic bone disease (MBD). To achieve this we recommend Arcadia's Dragon 14% UVB High Output T-5 bulbs. Additionally, we recommend maintaining a natural light cycle of 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness to promote their overall health and happiness.
Nutrition
Kings' rock monitors thrive on a diet primarily consisting of insects. We provide them with a varied selection of appropriate sized prey, including crickets, dubia roaches, black soldier fly larvae, and silkworms, ensuring balanced portions. To maximize their nutrition, all insects are gut-loaded before being served to our monitors. This careful diet helps maintain their health and vitality.

Requirements
Kings' rock monitors should have varying humidity levels throughout their enclosure. The goal is to replicate the same micro climates that these animals have access to in the wild. A range from 50% - 70% humidity should be available to them throughout their enclosure. This is achievable by providing a humid hide or area within the enclosure where the humidity can be slightly higher to allow the monitor to regulate its hydration as needed. These humidity levels can be maintained by misting the enclosure regularly, using a deep substrate layer, or providing a good sized water bowl.

A single monitor can comfortably live in a space of 3'L x 18"W x 12"H, while a pair requires a slightly larger setup of 3'L x 18"W x 18"H. To enrich their environment, add a 3D background along with plenty of cork flats and branches for hiding and climbing. Adding live plants and leaf litter not only enhances their habitat but also offers exciting smells and foraging opportunities, catering to their active and curious nature.
